Encryption specialists NDS says it has now supplied 82.7m authorised
smart cards to the pay-TV market.
NDS is also sitting on a ton of accumulated profits, up from $280m this
time last year to an impressive $663m on December 31 2007. “Our
accumulated cash is being held with the intention of using it for the
future development of the business and there are currently no plans to
pay any dividends to shareholders. During the six-month period ended December
31, 2007, cash from operating activities was $75.1m and we paid a net
$10.5m in respect of business acquisitions.”
Just about every revenue metric was up, and in some cases dramatically
so, and with extended contracts now in place at DirecTV (and DirecTV Latin
America) until 2013, plus further contract wins at Malaysia’s Measat,
Germany’s Accor and Poland’s Aster cable, the future looks
especially robust.
With 1.6m PVRs supplied during Q2 (1.1m same period last year),
the total deployed is now 10.4m, almost double (5.3m) the position
a year ago.
Total revenue for the three-month period ended December 31,
2007 was $214.9m, an increase of 30% over the corresponding period
of the previous fiscal year. For the six-month period ended December
31, 2007, revenue was $419.8m, an increase of 28% over the corresponding
period of the previous fiscal year.
